  • The Temiscamienne Forest
    Quoted from a book by a forest engineer from the University of Laval in Quebec, "The southwest forest of Temiscamingue, from Laniel to Rapide-des-Joachims, is home to a wide variety of tree species."  This characteristic is unique in Quebec and in all of Canada.

 

  • Canal Bay
    Canal Bay with the charming characteristics of a fiord, is a very popular site for vacationers.  The area is adorned with lush vegetation, shaded under cedars and large red and white pine trees.  The steep cliffs in the bay are spectacular.

 

  • Pleasant Islands
    Clermont and Huard Islands are maintained for the use of canoeists paddling the Kipawa River onto Lake Kipawa.  All sites are equipped with docks, picnic tables and outhouses.  Both islands have lovely sandy shorelines, perfect for swimming and basking in the sun.  Clermont Island also has a popular pedestrian trail.

 

  • The Heronry
    The heronry is an ideal site for birdwatchers, ornithologists and photographers who want to observe heron in their natural habitat.  The heronry is spread across a group of small islands.  You can observe these birds and their huge tree-top nests only from a distance, so please bring your binoculars.

 

  • Bridge, Dam and Water Level
    The village of Laniel has one of the few remaining arch bridges in Quebec.  Under this bridge, is a flood control dam which is used to regulate the water level in lake Kipawa. 

 

  • Kipawa River Trail
    The starting point for the Kipawa River Trail is about 8 km north of Laniel on Highway 101.  The 7-km trail from Highway 101 down to the Grande Chute, a 90-foot waterfall, on the Kipawa River is well-maintained with picnic areas and lookout points. For those who prefer a less demanding trail, the Grande Chute may be accessed by car, with a 15-minute walk from the parking lot.  To have more information about the Grande Chute, click here.   • The Kipawa River Rally
    Each year, on the St.Jean Baptist weekend, the Kipawa River attracts canoeists and kayakers from Quebec, Ontario and the U.S. for the annual Kipawa River Rally.  The paddlers, who have been coming to the rally since 1986, gather to experience the thrills of the Kipawa River rapids on the run from Laniel to Lake Temiscaming.

 

  • The Village promenade
    Pedestrians, cyclists and ATV amatures rejoice. And try our 1.1 km promenade built upon the old railroad, in the village center.

 

  • Boat sewage Pump-out station
    A pump-out station for boat sewage disposal is in operation at the Laniel municipal dock.
